The Basildon Academies

Sixth Form

Welcome to The Basildon Academies Sixth Form.  As the Assistant Head Teacher responsible for Key Stage 5 I aim to provide a personalised learning programme for each student in a safe environment that encourages them to become confident and capable young adults and that supports them in achieving their chosen further study and career paths.  I believe this aim will be realised through our curriculum provision, quality of teaching, our first class facilities and resources, and also through our support and advice programmes.

The Academy Sixth Form offers a broad curriculum that is personalised, flexible and above all challenging with the emphasis on A level and level 2 and 3 vocational learning.  Direct teaching hours per subject is generally five one hour lessons per week and teachers also offer bespoke after hours and weekend catch-up and revision programmes.  Whilst at the Academy students will also be guided to make the most of their independent learning time to ensure progress is maintained.

We excel at both guiding students through the university application process and we provide advice and opportunities, including arranging work experience placements, so that we enable our students to make informed decisions regarding their future ambitions.  We also provide our unique flagship ‘The Academies Traineeship’ that prepares students for the environment of work and apprenticeships.

Throughout their time at the Basildon Academies Sixth Form, students will become more independent, academically focused and resilient, and ambitious to realise their future pathways and goals.  In doing so students become more confident and suitably equipped in terms of personal qualities and competencies, including the abilities to ‘lead’ and participate in community activities.

With a vibrant and successful House system at the Upper Academy, Sixth Form students take a predominate role in organising events and activities that are at the hub of the day to day school lives of all students and staff.  Opportunities for responsibility and developing social skills are very much valued by our Sixth Form students.
