The Basildon Academies

Upper Academy Head Girl

Why I enjoy studying at The Basildon Academies

I enjoy studying at The Basildon Academies as it provides many opportunities; these include extra-curricular enrichment activities that are held during the week after school.  I currently attend the Academy’s debating club which helps to build on skills such as confidence and public speaking.  Another opportunity we had was the Inspiring Women’s day.  The scheme aimed to encourage young women to be highly ambitious and aspirational for their future career goals, offering access to successful young women in business for inspiration.

Sixth Form has provided me with the opportunities to go on educational visits.  I have been given the choice to attend geography and biology trips to help with my course; these experiences are also part of what has made my time here so enjoyable.

As a member of the Sixth Form I had the opportunity to attend the University of Essex where it focused on “continuing maths” as well as attending a university fair at Greenwich University which showcased various future pathways into higher education.

Part of my role as Head Girl is being a mentor to younger students which enables me to share my experiences with them.  I think it can be really useful for students studying for their GCSEs to be able to ask advice from their peers.

I am currently studying A-Level Biology, Chemistry, English and Geography. I am hoping to achieve my goal by going to university to study microbiology.  My dream university would be Bristol but I would happily study wherever as long as I can learn new things and enjoy myself at the same time.  The school has always encouraged me to take part in science and helped me when choosing my options to take triple science.  The teachers have always recognised my passion in science which has helped me to take my chosen path.  The Academies have never failed to provide support and help towards the options I chose and have made school and the Sixth Form a good environment to be in.
