The Basildon Academies

Upper Academy Head Boy

Being at the academies since Year 7 means that I’ve collected a vast amount of experiences which I will carry with me through university and in the working world.

The academies have open many doors for me, such as being able to participate in the UK maths challenge in Year 8 and 9. Also, the curriculum that the academies have to offer is excellent. Being able to study subjects, such as Business and Psychology, at GCSE level is great as I didn’t imagine studying those subjects before GCSE’s. Teachers are always pushing us to strive further by offering more opportunities. They offered Further Maths at GCSE to challenge my class further. In addition, at A Level, teachers have let three of us do extra maths units to help us strive further; this will help us gain access to top universities. We were able to see universities in detail as teachers took A Level student’s to a UCAS fair. We were able to decide what universities are right for us in plenty of time, which is beneficial when doing our UCAS applications.

I have also participated in the Jack Petchey Speak Out challenge and I made it to the regional finals; the teachers were helpful for developing my presentation skills and boosting my confidence.

Along with this, the teachers helped me to gain a place at an Oxford University summer school in the summer of 2017. This experience has showed me how to prepare for university and how to gain a place at Oxford. I am now going to apply to Oxford University and the teachers have been extremely helpful with how to make my UCAS application stand out.

Being offered head boy is going to help with my future career in finance and it shows I can be a leader due to the leadership skills I will develop from this role.

Overall, the academies have offered me a variety of experiences; I will take these with me once I have left. The academies create a student that is ready for the world after GCSE’s and A Level’s. They have expanded my horizons and I have enjoyed all the years I have been there for.
